Transformative Role of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in Realizing India’s Vision 2047: A Legal and Socio-Economic Analysis

Abstract

India's Vision 2047 sets out an ambitious plan to turn the country into a
developed, inclusive, and globally competitive economy by the 100th
anniversary of its independence. A key part of this change is making the
legal system, especially criminal law, more modern. This is important for
making sure that justice is done, keeping order, and building trust in the
economy. This paper analyzes the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, as a pivotal legislative reform supplanting colonial-era criminal law
frameworks, and assesses its contribution to the attainment of Vision 2047
objectives. The study employs a doctrinal and analytical methodology, underpinned by secondary data sources such as government publications, legal documents, and academic literature. The report cites major aspects of BNS, including the
streamlining of legislative rules, a focus on victim-centered justice, the use of new technologies, and
stronger protections for national security. The results show that BNS has a big impact on improving the
rule of law, making it easier to do business, and promoting social fairness. However, problems like poor
infrastructure, not enough qualified staff, and a backlog in the courts could make it less effective. The
report concludes that BNS has the capacity to change things, but it will only work if it is put into action
well, institutions are strengthened, and the public is made aware of it. The study adds to the body of
knowledge by connecting legislative change to long-term goals for national development.
